right noiw guys im loook @ GPu's later the Mobo and CPU, I7 or I5 is on the cards, Mobo will be Gigabyte and the best they got, ram will be XMS3
6GB i seen they do a 3 stick set, for just over £100, but im looking @ Nvidia 400 cards, maybe the 480 is a little ott, with my 22" wide screen, maybe even upto 24" them 480 are wasted ! but we will see,
What a mean is ! if im still using my 22" then the 480 will not be using its full power, and a lower/cheaper card can run the same FPS @ 1680 x 1050
Lots of things to think about, but Id say £600 for main components
Mobo, Ram, CPU, and another £600 for GPU,
My PSU and case are top end so no need to change them @ present

Its all well and good buying from the states just make sure you buy a decent brand that would offer support here otherwise your screwed when it comes to warranty and that £100 saving doesnt sound so nice then.

www.guru3d.com/article...80-review/
Not sure what reviews you have read, this is the most compreshensive review yet. Power consumptions is from the entire PC not the card.
www.ebuyer.com/product/202280
GTX 470 Above will do the job required against a 5850
GTX 480 competes against the 5870 and beats it in most tests. Would love to see what a dual processor 400 series would do against a 5970, if anything is to go by the above tests, then i think it will be faster.
Again down to choice ATi or Nvidia

gtx480 is in betveen ati 5870 and 5890 www.techradar.com/revi...artc_pg=4.
as it shows in that review, 480 is power hungry and runs very hot too, so higher fan speeds or aftermarket cooling would be needed.
personaly , id get 5870. its good for money, get it from uk suplier so nothing to worry about support and waranty.
but then gain Paul, you would need to change CPU coz what uve got at the moment would botleneck that GPU.you need more powerfull CPU m8.
you said you have 600 quid to spend on GPU. but if you get this www.overclockers.co.uk...ubcat=1502 card, you would have left 280 quid to spend on other components.
